Don't come to Lodz!

Reasons why you shouldn't come to Lodz for a stag party

and consider going to Prague or Krakow instead...

For some time now making trips to Eastern European cities for a Stag Party Weekends or for a Hen Night Weekends has been very popular among people in the UK and Ireland. For the past few years, millions of people have visited Prague, Krakow, Warsaw, Budapest, Riga and other cities. Eastern European countries have always been famous for stunning women, excellent spirits and great atmosphere. But there are some cities that haven't been discovered yet. One of these cities is Lodz.

Why have I never heard of Lodz?

Lodz is Poland's second biggest city, with a population of nearly one million people. The most important part of Lodz's history is the 19th and early 20th century when tens of factories and fabulous palaces of the factories' owners were built. Lodz used to be then one of the most densely populated industrial cities in the world and boasted the growth rate bigger than New York. At that time Lodz used to be called "the Promised Land" as thousands of people - Polish, Russian, German and Jewish - were migrating to Lodz in pursuit of a job and a better life. Today's Lodz just like in the 19th century thrives both economically and culturally. Major companies locate their head offices and factories in Lodz, like for example Philips, Gillette and Dell. This is a city it is impossible not to fall in love with. The famous American director David Lynch experienced that for himself. On one of his visits he took over 6000 photographs of Lodz, and said: "This city makes me dream."

Lodz means great time

For many years Lodz has been well-known across Poland for its clubs and pubs. It's said to be a cradle of pub-crawling, at weekends attracting visitors from all over Poland. With more than a hundred thousand students studying at the local universities, it's always easy to find a good party in Lodz and enjoy yourself! The cultural and entertaining life of the city concentrates around Piotrkowska Street - a seven-kilometre promenade and commercial centre, the longest such a street in Europe. In this street there are public administration offices, the most important institutions, banks, hotels, theatres, also half of the number of Lodz's shops, most galleries and book-shops, the best restaurants and more than 100 coffee bars, pubs and clubs.

Weekend in Lodz? No way...

But in fact for some people spending a weekend in Lodz may not be such a good idea. Here are 5 reasons why you shouldn't go to Lodz on a weekend:

Reason 1: if you don't like original tourist destinations (which are worth seeing and unique but not very well known) and you'd rather spend your holidays in the same place everyone else does- steer clear of Lodz!

Reason 2: if you prefer cities with medieval castles or Renaissance marketplaces (like hundreds of them in the whole Europe) and you aren't interested in taking in this post-industrial climate of Lodz - don't come to Lodz! 19th century factories, beautiful palaces and tenement houses make Lodz quite unique in terms of architecture and atmosphere.

Reason 3: if you aren't interested in sightseeing the biggest in Europe and probably the only one in the world 19th century textile factories complex - don't come to Lodz! Recently restored and brought back to life looks now exactly as it did 150 years ago but with the biggest shopping centre in Europe, innumerable pubs, cosy cafes and modern cinemas.

Reason 4: if you like to overpay for hotels, food, drinks, etc. - don't come to Lodz! In here the prices are very low (in comparison to Warsaw, Budapest, Prague etc.) providing you with loads of partying for little money.

Reason 5: if you like to spend your holidays among crowds of tourists - don't come to Lodz! Since Lodz is not very well known yet, there are not lots of tourists coming here. In Lodz you won't see hundreds of the Japanese taking photographs of everything and everyone nor meet street sellers trying to sell you anything they can. Lodz will let you enjoy your time in a great atmosphere and among friendly people.
